So today was my first day off and I was a loser and spent the whole day by myself. I went to Portland walked around for a couple hours, ate some subway, and went to the movies in Augusta to see Year One. It was pretty good but I was seriously the only person in the theater so I didn’t laugh as much as I would have wanted to. Then I got a delicious Orange Coolata from DD. MMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Tomorrow we have wake-up at 8AM, morning cove at 830AM, some final training sessions and our swim test. We also have our counselor cabaret which should be fun. Our campus (Apache Boys) is performing a skit that deals with our director. Apache does a skit every year so it should be good except we haven’t rehearsed at all. There are at least two dances and lines to learn so I don’t know when we’re gonna do that.
The campers arrive on Saturday. We unpacked all of their stuff yesterday so when they show up they can feel at home because their clothes are all folded on shelves and their beds are made with a personal belonging or gift on each bed. We also had camper conferences where we get information about each camper from the camp director so we know some stuff about them before they arrive. I think I am going to love my campers.
They say that my campers should be the type where they like to play games and don’t mind sports but they are also creative and intellectual and not very competitive. AKA perfect for me. We have a couple kids who are in metalsmithing which is usually off limits for Apache. And we have one kid who is going to be exempt from the baseball/lacrosse requirement so I might be able to accompany him to something more fun. We have a couple bed wetters, some messy divorces, and some allergies but nothing too bad. Should be a wonderful summer. Talk to you guys later.
Oh…as soon as I find out my nights on duty and my days off I will let you all know.

Don't tell Trenton about the unpacking the luggage to make them feel at home thing. That sounds like a really cool idea, but not one that I want him to think about.
ReplyDeleteHave fun!! Sounds exciting!
ReplyDeletelol to Ian's comment!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to see that you are enjoying yourself despite the bad things that are happening. And I'm sooooo sooo sooo excited that you are loving camp life. I just finished my training too, and my first campers start coming tomorrow. My camp is split up into week-long sessions, and this first week is for mentally handicapped. I'm nervous, but SOO excited because they are my favorite. :)
I think it is sooo weird that you can't take pictures. I don't really understand that but you should try to sneak some on your phone so we can see what it looks like up there. Hehe.
Be nice to the bedwetters. I was one. It is awful. I was scared almost everyday and certainly at night. What is the recommended procedure for dealing with (supporting) those damp, stinky, ashamed messes? Maybe you could stage a pee-the-bed night. Everybody drinks crazy amounts of water and everyone gets a taste, smell, feel of what its like. Hey, you nee a Faculty Master up there!
ReplyDeleteDO NOT take the advice of the one who suggested taking pictures. How naughty that would be! And the person who suggested it be watched very carefully for breaches of confidentiality once we are back together again. Shame, shame double shame.
